Description
Press release from East Penn School District: December 9, 2021 East Penn School District / District News / Flexible Instructional Days Dear Parents/Guardians: With winter approaching, we want to remind you of our practice regarding inclement weather days. The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) approved the use of Flexible Instructional Days (FID) as an alternate form of instruction in place of a day that was formerly a school closure due to inclement weather or emergency. FID days will be official school days and attendance will be taken. Students will follow their daily classroom schedule. Again this year, what might have formerly been an inclement weather or emergency school closure, may be used as a remote instructional day instead of using a snow day in the district calendar. The district will issue a notification on an inclement weather day as to whether the closing will be used as a flexible instructional day or a traditional snow day. FAQ's How will students find the learning activities and assignments for the FID? Students will complete all learning assignments provided by the teacher at home. All assignments will be posted on our East Penn learning management systems (Schoology for secondary students and SeeSaw or Google Classroom for elementary students.) What if a student does not have access to their district device or internet on an FID? If a household does not have Internet access, please contact the student's building principal or the Technology Department at 610-966-8380. Parents and/or students should make teachers aware of a need for a hard copy of the assignment and/or store materials on their device for offline use. What if a student scheduled a pre-approved absence for the FID day? The student would be expected to make up the learning activities and assignments within three days of returning to school just as if it were any other absence from school. Will there still be make-up dates built into the district calendar? Yes, make-up dates will continue to be built into the East Penn district calendar. The district has three days in our school calendar to be used as inclement weather days. Sincerely, Kristen Campbell, Ed.D.
