WOODBURY, MN — Organizers were forced to postpone a Hmong New Year celebration at Woodbury High School after South Washington County Schools closed its facilities Friday with a snowstorm on the way. The annual event was scheduled to run from 6-9 p.m. Friday, with a fashion show, performances, food, crafts, ball toss and other activities for guests to celebrate Hmong New Year. It has not yet been rescheduled. Winter Storm Warning Issued For Friday In Washington County Woodbury could get up to 11 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service, which issued a winter storm warning for Washington County that runs from noon Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday. Hmong New Year celebrations are typically held in November and December to honor ancestors and give thanks at the end of the harvest season. The Hmong new year started Dec. 5, according to the United Hmong Family, which organizes the annual Minnesota Hmong New Year Celebration in St. Paul. 14 Woodbury Schools On COVID-19 Outbreak List: MDH The event at Woodbury High School was organized by the Hmong Parent Advisory Council 833, the East Ridge Asian American Student Union, the Woodbury Asian Club and the Park Asian American Club.
