$30 to $35 per hour to start, plus overtime, pay is based on experience. Gateway Service District is hiring an experienced underground utility tradesperson with experience in major and minor repair and maintenance of its public potable water, irrigation and sewer system. This position will report directly to the Utility Director and daily and weekly work will come from the Utility Director. This is a non-managerial/supervisory position and this position will not be required to be on the rotating on-call shift schedule. This position will be required to report to work for any emergency water, irrigation or sewer main breaks, shutdowns or overflows should they occur during non-business hours or weekends as on-site crew requires. PRIMARY DUTIES • Repair of potable water, irrigation and sewer force mains, C900 PVC and Ductile Iron with sizes ranging from 2” to 24” • Regular maintenance of a public utility system, experience with an automatic valve machine, GPR, sewer videoing. • Repair and maintenance of the district’s fire hydrants restrained and unrestrained and general maintenance of and repair of fire hydrant isolation valves. • Regular testing and inspections of Districts sanitary sewer manholes, 6” connection points and lower lateral lines. Experience in repairs of sewer connection points, wyes at point of connection to customers. • Experience in emergency operations involving potable water, irrigation and sewer main breaks, emergency lift station repairs and/or bypass pump/electrical generator setups, sanitary sewer clogs, random meteor strikes. • Experience in repair and maintenance of District ARVs on potable, irrigation, sewer force mains and District lift stations. • Installation and maintenance of Districts irrigation system pumps and motors, check valves 10” Ductile Iron and OS&Y valves. • Maintenance and repair of Districts wellheads and piping system ranging from 4” to 10” Ductile iron. • Operation of the Districts fixed wheeled bypass pumps and diesel generators in normal maintenance exercising and emergency operations. • Act as the District field representative involving private contractors for contracted and emergency repair work involving the district’s public water, irrigation and sewer system. • Requisitions materials and conducts annual inventory to ensure that appropriate physical resources are available. Project inventory needs for yearly budgetary cycles. • Ability to train District field staff safely in repair and maintenance of the district’s public utility system • Train District field staff operators in the safe operation of mini excavator involving maintenance and repair of the district’s utility system. • Assess meter, water and sewer line problems and identify corrective measures for repairs quickly. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job. Incumbents may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. • Performs a variety of daily maintenance duties such as examination of contractor work for piping of potable water, irrigation, sewer force mains. Conducts on-site meetings, emails, and phone conversations for coordination with crews and/or contractors on specific projects. • Understands and works within the 811 utilities locate system and works with underground boring contractors. • Assists with providing appropriate safety and operational training for personnel under charge, to include monthly safety training meetings for OSHA compliance, and supplies appropriate personal protective equipment. • Consults various manuals, online resources, and references to assure compliance with applicable regulatory standards, and to gain information for collection and distribution division expansion planning, i.e., state and federal regulatory reports, construction drawings, electrical diagrams, instrumentation drawings, MIS data, engineering manuals, specifications manuals. • Maintains current knowledge of trends and developments in collection/distribution technology, operating methods, process control techniques, advanced equipment and instrumentation; and municipal, county, state, and federal regulatory practices as related to utilities collection and distribution standards. • May be required to operate a motor vehicle in performance of assigned tasks. • Performs other related duties and assignments as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES KNOWLEDGE OF • Collection and distribution methods and procedures, and sanitary characteristics of water/wastewater and chemicals used in the construction, maintenance, and repairs collection and distribution infrastructure/processes. • Equipment and tools, safety precautions and occupational hazards associated with collection/distribution chemicals and operations. • Backflow prevention and cross-connection controls and processes. • All relevant federal, state and local regulatory statutes, codes, ordinances, and safety regulations or the means to access such. • Report and record maintenance principles and practices. SKILLED IN • Advanced backhoe, excavator experience. • Planning, organization, prioritization, and time management. • Use of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. • Ability to work in a team environment and train junior operators. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience • High School diploma/GED. • Five (5) years of verifiable construction/maintenance of sewer, water, reuse collection and distributions systems. Licenses or Certifications • Must possess a valid state driver's license • FDEP Class 3 Water Distribution System Operator License, or ability to obtain within one (1) year. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • FDEP Class 3/2 Water Distribution System Operator License. • Backflow Prevention Assembly Testing & Repair certification or Cross Connection Inspection Certification. • FDOT Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) [MOT (Maintenance of Traffic)] certification.
