Press release from the City of Champaign: December 9, 2021 The City is proud to partner with C-U at Home and other local funding partners this winter to provide emergency low barrier shelters to residents without an address. Later this month, C-U at Home will begin "wet shelter" operations that will be available from 7:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. through mid-April at two new locations. A "wet shelter" is open to individuals who may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. One shelter will be for individuals identifying as male and the other is for those identifying as female. Professional staff with experience in mental health and/or substance abuse will work alongside professional security staff to ensure a safe environment for people to sleep overnight throughout the cold winter months.
