BERKELEY, CA — A suspect was charged Thursday in connection with an assault on a woman last month, The Berkeley Police Department said.
Police identified the suspect as a 35-year-old man, whose name was withheld. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, evading a police officer and driving and receiving a stolen vehicle, police said.
The Nov. 29 attack left the victim with head injuries, according to police.
The suspect is accused of throwing a rock or a hard object at a woman who was walking on the 2400 block of Durant Avenue, police said.
Officers identified the man from surveillance footage of the attack as a suspect wanted in connection to an unrelated crime, police said.
An officer on Monday spotted the suspect driving a stolen vehicle in the area of Acton Street and Bancroft Way, and when the officer tried to stop the man he drove away recklessly, police said.
Bike Force officers on Wednesday afternoon spotted the suspect walking on the 2400 block of Bancroft Way and arrested him after a brief foot chase, police said.
