Press release from the City of Scottsdale: December 9, 2021 HEADLINE NEWS  Only two COVID-19 vaccination opportunities left at Eldorado and Horizon community centers. Attend from 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, at Horizon Community Center, 15444 N. 100th St.; or 1:30-5:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13, at Eldorado Park Community Center, 2311 N. Miller Road. Check in no later than 30 minutes before each session ends. Pre-registration is not required, walk-ins are welcome. However, those wanting to save time onsite can pre-register by sending an email to [email protected]. Visit our COVID-19 page and select "Scottsdale Vaccine POD" for more information. Find other vaccine locations.   Investing in Our Scottsdale: WestWorld of Scottsdale. Scottsdale voters approved these projects as part of the November 2019 bond election.   WestWorld Arena Lights Replacement: We replaced lights at several WestWorld arenas to decrease operating costs, replace outdated technology and reduce light spillage to adjacent neighborhoods. The new LED system offers focused lighting within the arenas to eliminate light trespass and glare, and provides high-definition television broadcast quality light levels with instant-on with no warm-up delay.  WestWorld Arena Renovation: WestWorld's Arena 8 lacked flexibility and was only used for equestrian events. This project relocated light towers and seating, and added power and box connections to increase the rentable, usable space. The completion of this project allows Arena 8 to broaden the types of events hosted in this space, and reduces event set-up time.  Find more Investing in Our Scottsdale projects.  COVID-19 UPDATE    COVID-19 by the numbers. Maricopa County has been tracking COVID-19 cases since Jan. 22, 2020. Review the latest numbers.   Free COVID-19 vaccines will be available for students at Scottsdale Stadium. First shots take place from 2-7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, or Friday, Dec. 17. Seconds shots will be scheduled after the first shot, and take place from 2-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan 11, or Wednesday, Jan. 12. Those 18 and older are approved for the Moderna and Janssen COVID-19 vaccine. Those 5 and older are authorized for Pfizer. Pfizer for ages 5-11, Pfizer 12 and older, Moderna and Janssen (J&J) will be available. The priority is kids ages 5-11, then 12-18 and then adults, based on capacity. Register.  Key things to know about COVID-19 vaccines:   Everyone 5 years and older is eligible to get a free COVID-19 vaccination.  Everyone 18 and older who is fully vaccinated should get a booster shot.  COVID-19 vaccines are effective at helping protect against severe disease and death from the virus that causes COVID-19.  The benefits of COVID-19 vaccination outweigh the known and potential risks, which are rare.  People who are fully vaccinated can resume many activities they did before the pandemic. However, people should wear a mask indoors in public if they are in an area of substantial or high transmission.  About the Omicron variant. There's still a lot that public health experts don't know, but they are keeping a close eye on the science surrounding this new variant. All the data to date shows vaccines work to prevent serious illness from COVID-19, and other preventive measures such as masks, social distancing and avoiding large gatherings with people outside of your household add effective layers of protection. Learn more about Omicron.  Path out of the pandemic. The White House is implementing a six-pronged, comprehensive national strategy that employs the same science-based approach that was used to successfully combat previous variants of COVID-19 earlier this year. This plan will ensure that we are using every available tool to combat COVID-19 and save even more lives in the months ahead, while also keeping schools open and safe, and protecting our economy from lockdowns and damage.  THINGS TO DO:  Scottsdazzle, Scottsdale's signature holiday celebration, returns with more than 45 events and activities. Join in the merriment and cheer as we celebrate the season with our 6th annual Scottsdazzle holiday extravaganza. There is something for everyone – this month-long celebration, delights residents and visitors alike with festivals, concerts, unique events, stunning decor, dining, shopping and more.  Scottsdazzle Spotlight: Miracle of the Roses Pageant - This event celebrates the appearance of the Virgin Mary to Juan Diego on Tepeyac Hill near Mexico City from Dec. 9-12, 1531, referred to as the "Miracle of Roses," and honors Our Lady Guadalupe. The event features a performance reenacting those events with a devotional celebration and light refreshments immediately following. 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, Old Adobe Mission. Free.  Attend Scottsdale Concert Band's free "Holiday Pops" program. Enjoy live entertainment starting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, at Scottsdale Community College (SCC), 9000 E. Chaparral Road, in the outside pavilion. The Scottsdale Concert Band is an adult community band established in 1977, and it is the SCC's longest standing ensemble. Reducing your water use during December, January and February will help you save money yearlong.   SMoCA opens for in-person events. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art had restricted events to virtual participation only. Now, in conjunction with new COVID-19 protocols for events, the museum will move back to in-person programming. In-person events require proof of a valid negative COVID-19 PCR test within 72 hours of the event.
