MEET ME in the MIDDLE - Suicide Intervention Skills Training This course is being offered to Adult Nursing Students of Mercer County Technical School and is not open to the public. About this Training: • One-day workshop in Suicide Intervention Skills. • Learn and practice a Life-Saving Intervention model based on best practice methods and techniques. • Can be utilized by ANY and EVERY one. MEET ME in the MIDDLE is a one-day suicide intervention skills training with a focus on changing direction with an individual having thoughts of suicide and turning them toward safety. This highly interactive training teaches participants to recognize when someone may be at risk of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. Meet Me in the MIDDLE is a resource for the whole community. It helps people apply suicide first-aid in many settings: with family, friends, co-workers, and teammates, as well as formal care-giving roles. In the course of the workshop, MEET ME in the MIDDLE participants learn to: • Understand the ways personal and societal attitudes and feelings affect views on suicide and interventions; better understand of how our words matter when it comes to suicide. • Provide guidance and suicide first-aid to a person at risk by discussing suicide in a direct manner. • Identify the key elements of an effective safety plan and the actions required to implement it with a person at risk of suicide. • Appreciate the value of improving and integrating suicide prevention resources, be able to list types of resources available to a person at risk, including themselves. • Recognize other important aspects of suicide prevention and includes life promotion and self-care for helpers of the world. MEET ME in the MIDDLE helps build regional networks of trained HELPERS who can support each other and use common language to approach suicide and safety. MEET ME in the MIDDLE is only currently provided by the Founders (Owners) of this training program; it is based on best practice models and techniques. Suicide is preventable... but only when we know what to do. Pre-Registration is REQUIRED as space is limited to a specific number of participants. This training will take place DECEMBER 13th, 2021, from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Must be present for the FULL DAY to complete the training & receive certificate. This training will take place in PRINCETON, WV, at the Mercer County Technical School Conference Room. Please be on time as late entries will not be admitted and more than 15 minutes of missed class time will result in non-certification.
