Description

CAM Studio Course Sundays from 1:00-3:30 pm 8 weeks from January 30 – March 27, 2022. No class on February 20. CAM Studio, 27 Pleasant Street, Gloucester, MA $345 for members, $395 for non-members Instructor Mary Rhinelander, who completed an honors thesis in printmaking at Harvard and an MFA from Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, will lead an eight-week class exploring the breadth of possibility inherent in the monoprint technique. From Edgar Degas to Jasper Johns, this process has provided an outlet for countless artists over the centuries. Rembrandt, for example, combined monotype with his etchings, making each one a unique expression. Students will create images with ink on a plate and then transfer them to paper using a Conrad Machine Etching Press. Some materials will be provided; a supply list for complete materials will be shared upon registration. The Cape Ann Museum tells multiple stories, all relating to a single remarkable place. From its earliest days as a fishing and shipping port to its mid-19th century role in the granite industry, to its singular charms of light and sea that have attracted countless artists from the 19th century to the present, Cape Ann boasts a rich and varied culture of nationally significant historical, industrial, and artistic achievement. The Museum's fine art collection includes the largest grouping of works by native son and renowned marine artist, Fitz Henry Lane, as well as work by other prominent painters and sculptors who lived on, visited or were inspired by Cape Ann. The work of contemporary Cape Ann artists is also collected and exhibited. The permanent collection includes fine and decorative arts, and artifacts from the major industries of the area - the fisheries and granite quarrying.
