Rengstoff House, the City of Mountain View’s oldest standing house (c. 1860s) is the legacy of Henry Rengstorff, a poor German immigrant who settled in the South Bay during the Gold Rush era. Henry never panned for gold but did become one of the wealthiest men in Santa Clara County, and an influential pioneer in the early socio-economic development of Mountain View. The house which was home to three generations of the Rengstorff family has in itself a unique story to tell, including two moves within what is now Shoreline at Mountain View, and a history of community advocacy that helped save it from demolition and ensure its restoration in the 1990s. Your Host: Friends of "R" House is a volunteer-run nonprofit partnering with City of Mountain View to bring awareness and share knowledge of Rengstorff House, Henry Rengstorff and his family, as well as general information of 19th-century Mountain View. We do this through events and programs that educate and highlight the home. Donations are appreciated in person or via friendsofrhouse.org and support our educational and outreach efforts. We look forward to having you! Please follow us on Eventbrite and/or social media for future event announcements. The Friends of “R” House is a 501(c)(3) public benefit non-profit based in Mountain View, California. We partner with the City of Mountain View for the continued benefit of the historic Rengstorff House. The Rengstorff House is Mountain View's oldest remaining home and an integral part of local bay area history. Please visit friendsofrhouse.org for more.
