Every Thursday night! 9-12 at @thejusticepub it’s @thelyricistlive uncut OPEN MIC CYPHER FOR EMCEES! Mal Jones host and performs at this event. He has been an institution in the city's underground Hip Hop scene since it's inception and is dedicated to using Hip Hop to entertain, and educate. Under his full control, The Lyricist Live has received coverage in publications like The Folio Weekly, Movement, Void, and Arbus magazines among others, and is sponsored by The Community Foundation of Northeast Fl and The Cultural Council of greater Jacksonville. Through his efforts, Mal Jones recently had his life story Archived by The Florida Folklife Foundation by Florida's State Folklorist, Blaine Waide. The Florida Folklife Foundation Program is under the Department of State's Division of Historical Resources. This induction is groundbreaking since this is the first time that a Hip Hop artist has been recognized in the program's more than 35-year history. Mal Jones was awarded The Hip Hop Preservation Award in 2012, and has also recently became the first Hip Hop artist in Florida history to perform at The Florida Folklife Foundation Festival in 61 years. In 2013 Mal was awarded The Community Foundation of Northeast Fl Grant and In 2014 Mal awarded the Cultural council's Spark Grant for his efforts in preserving and documenting Hip Hop culture in downtown Jacksonville.
