Jane Coaston, New York Times columnist and host of the podcast "The Argument," joined by U of M Dean and Linguist Anne Curzan Join Jane Coaston, a New York Times Opinion columnist and host of the podcast, The Argument, for a discussion about civil discourse and why the world needs more of it. From football to identity politics, Coaston tackles our attachment to ideological bubbles and why we have them. At this event, she will share what she has learned about how to talk to people who think differently than you and how to remain open to different views. Coaston will be joined by Anne Curzan, a linguist, author, podcast host, and dean of the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts at the University of Michigan. Curzan will moderate the discussion and weave in her own insights about conversation, language, and how to be a better communicator. Coaston is a graduate of the University of Michigan and is excited to have this conversation at Ann Arbor’s Greenhills School. This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. More About Jane Coaston Jane Coaston is host of the New York Times podcast, The Argument, guest host for the "Ezra Klein Show", and a frequent NYT Opinion writer. Previously, she was senior politics reporter at Vox with a focus on conservatism and the GOP. Her work has appeared on MSNBC, CNN, NPR, and in National Review, the Washington Post, the Ringer and ESPN Magazine, among others. In addition, she is a former resident fellow at the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics. She attended the University of Michigan, and lives in Washington, D.C. Thurnau Professor and the Geneva Smitherman Collegiate Professor of English Language and Literature, Linguistics, and Education. She has authored several books, writes regularly for The Chronicle of Higher Education's language blog, "Lingua Franca," is a co-host of the program "That's What they Say" on Michigan Radio, and her TED talk has more than two million views.
