NEW YORK CITY — New York Attorney General and former gubernatorial candidate Letitia James is hoping to secure a deposition from former President Donald Trump as part of an investigation into whether widespread fraud permeated the Trump Organization, according to a report. Trump, who has largely divorced himself from the city he once considered home, is not said to be not the target of personal wrongdoing as part of the probe, the Washington Post reported Thursday. But James hopes to take a deposition from the one-time real estate mogul at her office in early January as part of her inquiry into the former president's business operation. James' investigation is said to be centered around whether the Trump Organization committed financial fraud in the property valuations it offered to various entities, the Post report said. James' office, along with the Manhattan District Attorney, has looked into whether Trump's organization broke the law by providing low tax valuations to some while using high valuations to garner tax breaks or impress lenders, the Post reported on Thursday. Trump, who was defeated by President Joe Biden in last year's elected, has moved to Florida and now is based in the Sunshine State after decades of calling New York City home and headquartering his business operations in Manhattan. Despite that, several reminders of Trump's once-major presence in New York City still remain nearly a year after he left the White House. See the entire Washington Post report here.
