MERRICK, NY — The Chabad chapter of Merrick, Bellmore and Wantagh is in desperate need of expansion.
The Chabad Center for Jewish Life, run by Rabbi Shimon Kramer, announced a campaign to create more space for their Merrick location.
Kramer said they are at capacity at the Alan & Tatyana Forman Jewish Early Learning Center, Chabad Hebrew School and Gan Israel day camp.
Local investors are willing to put up $300,000 as long as the synagogue can get another $100,000 in donations, Rabbi Kramer said.
The website has received one-fourth goal with $95,000 in donations.
The plan calls for four new classrooms and three therapy rooms.
Kramer said in an online video on Thursday that they have a waiting list of 100 children for the Hebrew school and the construction would fit as many as 70 more students.
Funding would also go toward scholarships to give underprivileged youngsters an education and assist with food security.
The Chabad Center is a federally approved non-profit organization. All donations are tax-deductible.
