Wheelock Students participate in Medfield Public Safety Drawing Contest During October, School Resource Officer, Paul Treggiari and other members of the Medfield Police Department held a "Medfield Public Safety Drawing Contest" offering Wheelock 2nd and 3rd grade students an opportunity to participate. Students were asked to draw a picture showing "Proper Public Safety", i.e., bicycle safety, playground safety, etc. "I read an article about a school resource officer out in the midwest who made license plates for their police cruisers for a similar contest. I thought it was a fantastic way to engage our youth with public safety and considered how we could make this Medfield specific. With the support of Principal Caufield and Chief Guerette, I created a public safety drawing contest where the winners would have their drawings turned into car magnets. I received nearly 50 drawings from 2nd and 3rd grade Wheelock school students. Five drawings were selected by officers that showed excellent public safety initiatives for children. Seeing the smiles and excitement these students had when we announced the winners made me realize how rewarding this contest was for our department and schools. I look forward to other contests and events in the school district as the year continues." said SRO Paul Treggiari. The 5 winning drawings were created by Emilie Cabezud, Anna Brehm, Shane Hartery, Maggie Andrews and Kat Zheng. Just before Thanksgiving, all of these students had their photo taken holding their magnet as well a group photo of them with Principal Caulfield, SRO Paul Treggiari and MPD Chief Michelle Guerette in front of a Medfield police cruiser. These winning magnets will also be displayed on some of the Medfield Police cruisers for the next few months. Chief Michelle Guertte stated, "I simply loved the energy and excitement that SRO Treggiari brought to this project. Our agency recognizes the bond that can be created between our youth and public safety through this type of playful interaction with our youngest citizens. We are always grateful for the coordination with school officials to make these projects successful."
