Press release from the City of San Antonio: Monday, December 6, 2021 CONTACT: Victoria Villarreal, 210-207- 2614 [email protected] SAN ANTONIO (December 6, 2021) — San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) is celebrating Memorial Branch Library's 40th Anniversary. Activities include an in-person, outdoor exhibit on the grounds of Memorial Branch Library and special, commemorative Take-and-Make activity kits available beginning December 8. Memorial Branch Library, SAPL's 11th branch library, first opened its doors on May 4, 1981. The library was named Memorial at the request of the neighboring community to honor San Antonio's fallen military service members. In honor of this milestone achievement, SAPL invites the public to visit Memorial Branch Library (3222 Culebra Rd., 78228) on December 8, beginning at 10 a.m. for a free, commemorative Take-and-Make kit (while supplies last). The outdoor historical exhibit chronicles Memorial Branch Library's founding, dedication, naming, and programs up to and including its current, ongoing renovation project. In addition to the in-person activities, an online webpage featuring wishes from community members will be available at guides.mysapl.org/memorial40th. Memorial Branch Library is in the midst of a $3.3 million renovation project to transform and expand the library and increase and improve services to the community. While the facility is closed for renovation, SAPL's Library on the Go mobile unit is on-site providing services including materials pick up and outdoor Wi-Fi availability. Memorial Branch Library is scheduled to fully reopen in 2022. For information on library services, visit mysapl.org. Library staff is available by phone at 210-207-2500 or by chat at ask.mysapl.org.
