Press release from the San Antonio Public Library: Victoria Villarreal 6 December 2021 SAN ANTONIO (November 10, 2021) — In observance of Native American Heritage Month, San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) is recognizing the rich and diverse culture, traditions, and histories of Native people with a selection of in-person programming, staff book reviews, book lists, resources, and more. What started as an effort to implement a day of recognition eventually resulted in an entire month dedicated to honoring the Native American Heritage. On August 3,1990, former President George H. W. Bush declared the month of November as National American Indian Heritage Month, commonly referred to as Native American Heritage Month. During this month and year-round, SAPL encourages the public to learn more about Native tribes and the unique challenges they face both historically and in the present.
