CHARLOTTE, NC — CMS Superintendent Earnest Winston declined a bonus Wednesday night after an emergency meeting to discuss giving employees retention bonuses. Full-time employees will receive $2,500 and part-time workers will receive $1,250. The bonuses will be released in two installments, first in December and the second in September. Janitors and cafeteria workers are also included in the bonus structure. Substitutes are not eligible. The $48 million expenditure will come from the American Rescue Plan Act; the school board confirmed it was an appropriate use of those federal funds. Earnest Winston said he would decline a bonus for himself, saying "there's more work to do," at the virtual meeting Wednesday night.
