This position performs vehicle maintenance work such as vehicle inspection, diagnoses, and makes major and minor mechanical repairs to all types of District vehicles and equipment. Essential Functions: Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Assists senior maintenance workers in vehicle maintenance procedures. 2. Performs general cleaning of bus fleet and shop, including replenishing fuel and oil, washing windows, sweeping, mopping, picking up garbage, and organizing supplies and tools. 3. Performs tire mounting and repair as needed. 4. Assists in scheduling maintenance and safety inspections for District vehicles. 5. Assists in trouble shooting vehicle problems, makes repairs and road tests vehicles after repairs. 6. Assists in performing diagnosis, repairs, and inspections of gas and diesel engines for District vehicles and equipment. 7. Provides service and repairs for vehicle break downs or other unplanned/emergency repair situations. 8. Assists in installing, maintaining, and repairs of electrical components and systems. 9. Assists in repair, replacement, and testing fuel injectors and pumps to specifications. 10. Assists in inspections, installs, repairs, and modifications of electrical, air and hydraulic systems and other specialized accessories to District vehicles and equipment. 11. May prepare estimates for vehicle labor, time, and cost of proposed projects. 12. Maintains written and computerized records of maintenance, repairs and servicing of District vehicles and equipment. 13. Assists in maintaining an accurate inventory system and orders all parts and supplies. 14. Completes all appropriate logs, forms, and paperwork as required. 15. Provides vehicle reports and detailed cost analysis and repair history. 16. Maintains computerized fleet software programs and records. 17. Maintains detailed knowledge of Oregon Department of Education rules governing school buses and maintenance. 18. Performs substitute bus driving duties. 19. Assists other vehicle maintenance personnel as needed. 20. Other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education/Experience: High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED); AND Possession of a valid State of Oregon Driver’s License. Five (5) years of successful driving experience. Certificates, Licenses, Registration & Other Requirements • Ability to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR card and pass SafeSchools training modules as assigned. • Ability to obtain and maintain an Oregon Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with proper endorsements and possession of an Oregon Department of Eductation (ODE) School Bus Drivers Certificate. • Ability to successfully complete a physical examination, required DMV testing, required ODE classes, drug screening and physical strength testing. Desired Qualifications • Completion of a licensed trade school with emphasis in vehicle maintenance and repair. • Four (4) years qualifying experience related to repairing and maintaining vehicles or heavy equipment. • Knowledge of Oregon Department of Transportation school bus inspection requirements. Any employee hired throughout the 2021-2022 school year will receive retention incentives throughout the year in up to $750 increments (not to exceed $2,250 per year), based on hire date and full-time/part-time status.
