What is it? We are pleased to provide a rare and exciting opportunity to learn the process of crafting whiskey from start to finish, and be paid for it! The two-phase program will provide hands-on training and semi-structured learning, as you work and study in the distillery, gaining knowledge and understanding of each process. Your goal will be to attain the competence and proficiency to become autonomous in distillery operations. When? - Accepting applications now, with immediate start dates. (Job is 4/10 hour days: M-Th or Tu-Fri) Who are we looking for? - No experience necessary! However, an interest in distilling spirits is required and the desire to enter the industry is mandatory. Ideal candidates may possess: Helpful knowledge o Science-y background (e.g., acids/bases, solute/solvent, boiling points, solid/liquid/gas, temperature & pressure) o Fermentation science, chemical composition & reaction/interaction o Math, process engineering o Safety & compliance, quality control Advantageous skills o Weights, measures & conversions, gauges & dials o Recipes & process, applied production o Tasting (nose, palate), formulations, concoctions o Mechanical, hand & power tools, repair & maintenance o Freight & logistics, inventory, tracking, record-keeping o Problem solving, multi-tasking, attention to detail Work you will do? o Assist distiller with production of whiskey, vodka, gin, rum and liqueurs o Mash and ferment alcohol from raw grains o Safely run alcohol distillation systems o Fill & dump barrels, proof & filter spirits o Bottle, label, and package products o Track product inventory in warehouse and keep cocktail bar well-stocked o Prepare product for distribution o Maintain clean facility and equipment How long is the program? Phase one will be a trial period of three months, with an opportunity for a pay raise upon successful completion. Phase two will be a continuation of the program and will be more in-depth. Successful completion of phases 1 & 2 may result in an offer for long-term full-time, salaried employment with our company depending on the strengths/interest of the apprentice.
