Arrest Warrant Issued On Man Who Assaulted Women In Daylight

TAMPA, FL —Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office detectives have obtained an arrest warrant for a man accused of attempting to rape a woman in broad daylight. Around 9 a.m. on Nov. 27, a woman was walking in the area of Celestial Oaks Drive and Central Avenue North in Tampa when she was approached by a man who asked her for money and cigarettes. The victim refused and continued walking south. The man then approached her again near the intersection of Central Avenue North and 138th Avenue East and pushed her to the ground and attempted to sexually batter her. After posting a surveillance photo on the sheriff's Facebook page, detectives identified the man as Ron Smith, aka Stephen D.Smith, 42, a homeless man known to frequent the Ybor City area. He is 6 feet 1 inches tall and 170 pounds. Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the location and arrest of Smith.
