Marblehead Elm Street Drainage Project To Begin Monday

MARBLEHEAD, MA — Marblehead residents and commuters are asked to avoid the area of Elm Street for the next six weeks beyond necessary business with work set to begin Monday on the final phase of the Pleasant Street Drainage Project. The Marblehead Department of Public works said construction will run Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the possibility of some Saturday and early evening work. The goal is to complete the project prior to the onset of severe winter weather. The DPW said "every effort will be made to keep one lane open" but added that there may be days when that is not possible. Efforts will be made to provide advanced notice of any complete shutdowns. Businesses in the area will be open, and nearby residents will be able to come and go with the assistance of detail office, but those who do not live or have business in the area are asked to "please consider avoiding it to make life easier on everyone." MBTA buses will continue to use the Elm Street corridor with notification provided if any route modifications are necessary. Those with questions can contact the DPW at 781-631-1750.
