Description

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham school officials have alerted parents to a "surge" in coronavirus cases in city schools this week, with 49 new cases reported since Monday alone. The number of new cases is so high, school health officials have had trouble completing contact-tracing efforts. "At this point in time we are significantly delayed in our ability to contact trace due to the surge we are experiencing as a district," the district said in a message to parents. "This is not unique to Framingham; other urban districts are experiencing similar surges." The district is taking several steps, including the suspension of athletic practice at the high school for girls and boys basketball and wrestling. The district may also hire an outside company to speed up contact-tracing. More than half of this week's new cases — 26 — were found at the high school. You can view the FPS case totals here.
