MANCHESTER, CT — Manchester Democrats need to fill the Board of Education vacancy created by the resignation of Darryl Thames after Thames was elected as town clerk in November. And local Dems are asking that anyone interested in serving to get in touch with them. "If you have an interest in joining the effort to continue moving our school system forward so it best serves the needs of our young people, our parents, and our community, please contact me by the end of the day Friday (Dec. 10)," Democratic Town Committee Chairman Michael Pohl said. "We want to fill Darryl's seat right away, so our Board of Education remains at full strength and can address the challenges and opportunities it faces." Pohl invited anyone interested in considering the board seat to call him at 860- 983-4804. Thames first joined the Board of Education when he was appointed to fill a vacated seat in 2012. After being elected and re-elected to his own terms, Thames served as secretary and then as chairman of the Manchester Board of Education. People interested in filling the Thames seat on the board, which has a term running until 2023, will be asked to meet with the Democratic Town Committee's Nominating Committee. The Nominating Committee will then make a recommendation to the full Town Committee. Pohl said plans are for the new board member can be sworn in and seated in January, as Thames will be leaving the board after the New Year to assume his duties as Town Clerk.
