HAMDEN, CT — Two 14-year-old students at Eli Whitney Technical School in Hamden were arrested Tuesday in connection with threats that sent the school into "lockdown" over the past two days, according to multiple reports. NBC Connecticut reported that both threats were posted to Instagram on Monday and Tuesday and did not appear to be related. Brian Foley, assistant to Connecticut's public safety commissioner, told NBC Connecticut that school threats are being investigated across the state and he believes social media is leading to copycat incidents. The New Haven Register reported that the Eli Whitney students, both boys, were each charged with first-degree threatening and second-degree breach of peace. The student involved in Monday's threat also faces a charge of third-degree intimidation based on bigotry and bias for several comments that police said were related to bullying, according to the Register.
