Press release from the Loudoun County Government: December 7, 2021 The four dogs rescued by Loudoun County firefighters remain in "guarded" condition after yesterday's accidental fire in Purcellville. At approximately 2:40 p.m. on Monday, December 6th, 2021, the Loudoun County Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call reporting smoke coming from a residence on Pipers Brook Drive in Purcellville. The caller indicated that they didn't believe anyone was home however there may be several dogs inside the residence. Fire and Rescue units from Purcellville, Hamilton, Round Hill, Philomont, Leesburg, and multiple command officers responded to the incident. Firefighters arrived on scene and found a one-story, single-family home with smoke showing from the side and roofline of the home. Crews entered the structure and found an active kitchen fire, which was quickly extinguished and checked for fire extension. A search of the residence confirmed that no occupants were inside, however, a total of four dogs were rescued from the home. The canines were given initial medical care by personnel on scene, to include oxygen, and Loudoun County Animal Services staff assisted and coordinated additional veterinary services. There were no injuries to civilians or first responders however one adult and four dogs were displaced. The home was equipped with working smoke alarms, which were sounding when fire and rescue units arrived. The Loudoun County Fire Marshal's Office investigation determined the fire to be accidental, due to an appliance malfunction on a kitchen countertop.
