Press release from Albuquerque Public Schools: December 7, 2021 Congratulations to APS Board of Education members President Dr. David Peercy, Vice President Lorenzo Garcia, Secretary Yolanda Montoya-Cordova, Barbara Petersen, Peggy Muller-Aragón, Candelaria Patterson, and Elizabeth Armijo. The APS Board of Education was honored as Board of the Year in the large district category at the NMSBA's annual convention in early December.   In his nomination letter, APS Superintendent Scott Elder said he is proud to have worked alongside the board, who sought the safest, most effective way to teach and care for students amid an everchanging pandemic. "The board prioritized the best interest of students despite controversy, opposition, or pushback. Their devotion and compassion for all students are commendable." The APS board was commended for prioritizing student well-being, evident as board members faced difficult decisions surrounding remote and unfinished learning; physical, mental, and emotional health; school safety, including mask mandates; teacher and staff support; family outreach and communication; and community partnerships. The APS board was also recognized for being extremely active, attending, participating, and serving in leadership positions at NMSBA regional and state events, training sessions, and committee meetings. They readily shared their knowledge and experience with all members.  Superintendent Elder described the board as passionate, working relentlessly on behalf of the youngest members of the Albuquerque community so that they may experience success not only in school but in life.  This press release was produced by Albuquerque Public Schools.
