Cape May County Tolls To Double By 2024 Under 3-Year Plan

CAPE MAY COUNTY, NJ — The Cape May County Bridge Commission is considering raising tolls on the five coastal bridges it operates. According to a proposed schedule, the current toll of $1.50 for cars would double to $3 by 2024. The toll would increase by 50 cents in 2022, 50 cents in 2023 and 50 cents in 2024. The commission operates the Ocean City-Longport Bridge, Townsends Inlet Bridge, Corsons Inlet Bridge, Middle Thorofare Bridge and Grassy Sound Bridge. The first increase would be implemented on or after Feb. 1, 2022. The second is proposed for implementation on or after Feb. 1, 2023 and the third is proposed for implementation on or after Feb. 1, 2024. If approved it would be the first toll adjustment in twelve years. The toll increases would provide funding for future maintenance projects, officials said. Currently, the commission does not have funding for any bridge projects. All maintenance, repairs and upgrades are funded through the county. The commission could start to fund smaller maintenance and repair projects with toll revenue, officials said. Comments on the proposed toll adjustments will be accepted from Dec. 8 to Jan. 8, 2022. Individuals have three ways to comment on the proposed changes: Mail to the Cape May County Bridge Commission, 4 Moore Road, DN 3010, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210. Pick up and drop off Toll Comment Forms at any of the five (5) Ocean Drive bridges. Email your comments along with your name and municipality of residence to [email protected]. Anonymous comments will not be accepted. All eligible comments will be transcribed for inclusion of the public records to be reviewed by the CMCBC Commissioners prior to taking action on the proposed toll adjustment.
