Klein Cain Student Expelled For Social Media Threats

HOUSTON, TX — A student at Klein Cain High School has been expelled because of threats against the school made on social media, school officials said Wednesday. Klein ISD officials tracked down the 15-year-old student who made the threats with the help of the FBI and the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office, according to David Kimberly, chief of police for the district. The school isn't releasing the name of the student because he is a minor. The district will pursue a terroristic threat charge against the student at minimum and could possibly pursue more severe charges, Kimberly said at a news conference. He also warned anyone else who would threaten the safety of students and staff in the district. "Not only will you be expelled, but we will put any charge we can on you," Kimberly said. "As a community at Klein ISD, that's not our mission." A break out of fights and threats had been a problem at the school recently, Klein Cain principal Nicole Patin said in a letter to parents Tuesday. The letter was one of three obtained by Patch that were sent from the district to Klein Cain parents between Monday and Tuesday. Backpacks are prohibited at Klein Cain until at least the end of the semester, according to one of the letters. It is unclear when backpacks will be allowed on campus, but students will be permitted to bring their laptops as well as small clutch bags. Additionally, search dogs will be used for random inspections of cars and public areas on campus for an undetermined period, according to the letter. "As a parent, a member of this community, and a longtime educator, I join many of you in being disheartened and frustrated that the actions of a few members of our student body have made some in our community and school feel unsafe," Patin said in the letter. "We continue to work closely with Klein ISD Police and the Harris County District Attorney to ensure any individual who disrupts the learning environment will be dealt with accordingly."
