FAIRFAX, CA — The town of Fairfax has amended its General Plan to replace some loaded terms with more inclusive language. The Town Council at its Dec. 1 meeting adopted the resolution to amend the General Plan to include equity-related language. Specifically, the town removed the terms "community character" and "neighborhood character" from the General Plan with terms that more accurately reflect the intended meaning of those phrases. The resolution, which had the backing of town staff, followed Shelley Hamilton's July 1 The resolution, which had the backing of town staff, followed former Planning Commissioner Shelley Hamilton's July 1 presentation to the town's Racial Equity and Social Justice Committee (RESJ). The RESJ at its Aug. 5 meeting voted to the endorse the proposal. Hamilton is a Fairfax resident and former Planning Commissioner (2007–2016) who worked on the General Plan and served on the General Plan Advisory Committee. To view the resolution, visit here.
