Here are the top stories in San Diego today: The San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted 3-2 to continue the local health emergency order connected to the efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Supervisors Nathan Fletcher, Terra Lawson-Remer and Nora Vargas were in favor, while Joel Anderson and Jim Desmond voted no after a regular update on the virus. (City News Service)The San Diego City Council unanimously passed an update to the Barrio Logan Community Plan, replacing a 43-year old blueprint with one intended to end what some council members called environmental racism in the San Diego neighborhood plagued with long-simmering tensions between residents and heavy industry. The council adopted an updated plan in 2013, but voters repealed it nine months later in a ballot referendum. (City News Service)San Diego County prosecutors filed felony charges against 10 people accused of taking part in "violent criminal acts" in Pacific Beach earlier this year as they tried to disrupt a march by supporters of then-President Donald Trump. The Jan. 9 clash was eventually declared an unlawful assembly by San Diego police, who announced most of the defendants were arrested last week in Los Angeles and San Diego counties. USMC Lance Cpl. Alberto Lucio, 20, stopped alongside the southbound side of the freeway in the area of Las Pulgas Road shortly before 3:30 a.m. Monday to assist the stranded driver and his passenger, who had been involved in a solo crash a short time earlier, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office and California Highway Patrol. (City News Service)A U.S. Marine Corps veteran from Spring Valley who falsely claimed he was disabled and defrauded the Department of Veterans Affairs out of more than $183,000 was sentenced to eight months in custody. Anthony Medrano, 42, submitted fraudulent claims to the Veterans Administration over the course of several years, with aims of obtaining caregiver benefits for his wife, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
