JERSEY CITY, NJ — Jersey City's Ward C runoff election wrapped upon Tuesday with incumbent Richard Boggiano defending his council seat from challenger Kevin Bing. Boggiano kept his seat with 1,733 votes to Bing's 1,237, according to unofficial results. Boggiano has served as Ward C Councilman since 2013. Bing is a businessman and political newcomer. The runoff election was necessary after neither candidate earned over 50 percent of the ward votes in the November general election. Boggiano's win brings the City Council to a 7-2 majority for Mayor Steven Fulop's slate. Boggiano celebrated on Tuesday, telling media outlets "Thank you to the people of Ward C for decisively voting to re-elect me and allowing me to continue serving our community — I love Jersey City, and I'm excited to continue working hard for my constituents and delivering the leadership they deserve." Bing congratulated Boggiano, tweeting that the work to improve Ward C was not over. "While the campaign is done the issues we fought for don't go away today and we shouldn't stop our work either. Congrats to Rich Boggiano and I wish him success in addressing the vital issues facing the Ward," Bing tweeted, "Losing is a part of politics. The best thing you can do from it is learn. That's what we do now. Thanks to everyone who supported this race. We've got a lot to be proud of."
