CONCORD, NH — Residents at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton memorialized the 80th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack on Tuesday. Dec. 7, 1941, a day that will live on in infamy, took the lives of more than 2,400 service members and civilians after the Japanese attack. Nearly 1,200 others were also injured. At the event, Elaine Baker, a Korean Conflict Navy veteran, as well as Stanley Piper, a WWII Army veteran, and Roger Cabana, a Vietnam Navy veteran, stood for the Pledge of Allegiance. In the photo below, Paul Tilden, a WWII Army veteran, reads the New Hampshire Veterans Home daily program sheet in preparation for the event. Community members can watch the ceremony on YouTube.com. Antiques Roadshow Returns Mark your calendars: The popular public television series, Antiques Roadshow, will offer new episodes for the airwaves next month. The series, which is the most-watched ongoing series on PBS, will begin new episodes at 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 3. The show, which has been nominated for 19 Emmys, was taped at a number of locations during the past year including the historic Omni Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods here in the Granite State. "Last season was filled with fan favorites and celebrity surprises, but there is nothing like traveling our country discovering the stories behind attic finds, flea market bargains, and family heirlooms," Marsha Bemko, the show's executive producer, said. "We've got a season full of the quintessential Roadshow moments that we all miss and crave." A couple of the items presented while the show was in the state include a light fixture from a chicken coop and a custom-made Louis Comfort Tiffany treasure. Other items featured this season include a $100,000 sculpture and an antique car. Watch this preview of the season premiere on YouTube.com. Fixed COVID-19 Shot Sites Opened Three new fixed sites for COVID-19 shots and booster shots have been opened in New Hampshire. They include: The Chalet at 161 East Milan Road in Berlin; The Common Man Event Room at 231 Main St. in Plymouth; and the former NH State Liquor Store at 367 Washington St. in Claremont. A fourth location will open in Rochester on Thursday. The sites were opened due to longer than normal waits for shots in some parts of the state. "The state fixed vaccination sites provide New Hampshire residents additional opportunities to get vaccinated or a booster dose without having to make an appointment," DHHS Commissioner Lori Shibinette said. "The demand for vaccine demonstrates New Hampshire's resiliency as we all work to protect our most vulnerable citizens from COVID-19." Gov. Chris Sununu said, with the winter surge hitting the state, the new locations would assist residents in proactively helping themselves. Here is everything else going on in New Hampshire right now.
