LOS ANGELES, CA — The deadline has passed for students who have not received their first COVID-19 shot to be fully vaccinated by the Los Angeles Unified School District's deadline — and about 34,000 students have not yet complied with the mandate, The Los Angeles Times reported.
Students who aren't fully vaccinated by Jan. 10, the date the second semester starts, must either switch to LAUSD's independent study program or leave the Los Angeles public school system entirely, according to the LA Times.
The newspaper said the independent study program, called City of Angels, has suffered staffing shortages and confusion since the start of the school year — but, it reported, officials have not publicly discussed any leniency or extended deadlines.
Currently, the LAUSD's student vaccination rate is around 85 percent.
