BOYLE HEIGHTS, CA — For the second time in 24 hours, a boy was shot and killed near a Los Angeles school on Tuesday. Tuesday's shooting occurred at about 3:30 p.m. East First Street and South Savannah Street, near First Street Elementary School, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Rosario Cervantes said. The boy died at the scene. Police did not reveal his age nor any details about the suspect. Authorities also did not identify a motive for the shooting. Officers established a perimeter in the area to search for the shooter. Reports from the scene indicated that one person had been detained, but police were still searching for a second suspect. No further details were immediately available. On Monday, a 12-year-old boy was shot and killed while sitting in a parked car. A 25-year-old woman in the car was also wounded as was 9-year-old girl struck by a stray bullet while playing on a nearby school playground. The slain child, Alexander Alvarado, was shot near Wilmington Park Elementary School. On Tuesday, his mother suggested that her son's killer may have been a child as well.
