JOLIET, IL — A man who appeared to be in his 40s is fighting for his life after his car veered off Route 6 in Joliet, crashing into a tree Wednesday afternoon.
A Joliet Fire Department ambulance rushed the crash victim to St. Joe's hospital where the man was in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, fire chief Greg Blaskey said.
The one-car crash happened shortly after 1:20 p.m.
Joliet's firefighter/paramedics from Stations 6 and 7 responded to the wreck at Route 6 and Terminal Court. Blaskey said the victim was found unconscious and needed to be extricated from his car.
A half dozen Joliet police officers were on the scene Wednesday afternoon, investigating the events that led to the crash.
