Description

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department said Glenwood Avenue was closed to traffic late Wednesday night as several police officers were called to investigate a wreck. One source told Joliet Patch that there may have been one and possibly two fatalities. Police alerted Facebook followers around 9:15 p.m. of the shutdown for Glenwood Avenue from North Midland Avenue all the way to North Reed Street. Catherine Street from Glenwood Avenue to West Acres Road was also closed for the same incident, Joliet police said. Joliet's Bob Hernandez was able to get to the scene to produce one of his Facebook Live videos for his followers. Hernandez said he talked to witnesses at the scene and learned that the car caught on fire and the Joliet Fire Department extinguished the blaze. As of 11 p.m. the car that crashed into the tree on Glenwood had not been removed by a tow truck, and yellow crime scene tape was still up. Joliet Patch will update this story on Thursday as more details are known. More than two hours afterward, Joliet police still kept Glenwood Avenue closed down to traffic as of 11 p.m. Image via Bob Hernandez with permission to use
