Description

WESTLAKE, OH — An electric vehicle (EV) charging station could soon be installed at Westlake Recreation Center. The station would have four plugs for charging and would be the first city-owned station in Westlake, a city spokesperson told Patch. City Council will vote on the EV station in January 2022. The EV station would be constructed as part of the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) Electric Vehicle Charging Station Program. The agency plans to construct 48 EV stations throughout northern Ohio. The stations would be installed between spring and summer 2022. Once the stations are finished, they should be available for use by the general public. "Funding for the program, totaling $3 million, is being provided by NOACA through its federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) program, which aims to improve air quality and reduce congestion on the region's roadways," the agency said in a statement. Similar EV charging stations will be installed in neighboring Strongsville, Brook Park, Lakewood, Rocky River, and at certain GCRTA facilities. NOACA believes the electric vehicle charging station program could improve air quality in northern Ohio.
