Description

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — 'Tis the season for giving back to your community. There are a number of ways that you and your family can help out through the holidays and help others. Every day through Christmas, Patch will be highlighting a way you can provide compassion and resources to those in need. Volunteer New York! makes it easy to find ways to help — through donations, supporting nonprofits and even volunteering from home. Today's opportunity is for My Sisters' Place. The nonprofit assists survivors of domestic violence with family and immigration legal services, counseling and emergency shelter. They are seeking volunteers to "adopt" an emergency shelter family for the 2021 holidays, many of whom will be spending the holidays alone for the first time. Once volunteers are matched with an anonymous family, they will receive the survivor's story as well as their holiday wish list. Volunteers will then purchase gifts from the wish list and deliver them to the My Sisters' Place office in White Plains. For more information, or to express interest, go here.
