TUCSON, AZ — Former Deputy Chief Chad Kasmar will be Tucson's new police chief, after former Chief Chris Magnus stepped down to take the job of commissioner for U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The Tucson City Council voted unanimously to appoint Kasmar as the new chief, according to the Arizona Daily Star. The U.S. Senate voted 50-47 on Tuesday to confirm Magnus as the head of the nation's largest law enforcement agency, according to The Arizona Republic. Magnus, who has headed Tucson's police force since 2016, was nominated by President Joe Biden to head U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Kasmar has been with the Tucson Police Department since 2000, according to the city, and became deputy chief in 2016. Kasmar is a graduate of the University of Arizona.
