West Alabama House Races Raise Over $150K Ahead Of Jan. 28.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — With a little more than a month left in the qualifying period for the 2022 General Election, four unopposed races for the Tuscaloosa delegation in the Alabama House of Representatives have raised more than $150,000 to date. The next round of campaign filings will cover the reporting period from Dec. 1-31 and will be due for submission by Jan. 4, 2022. The deadline for candidates to qualify for party primaries is Jan. 28, 2022. While the races for House District 61 and House District 62 will be for seats that will open up at the end of the term, State Rep. Cynthia Lee Almond, a Tuscaloosa Republican, ran unopposed in a 2021 special election to fill the remainder of the term for State Finance Director Bill Poole. Poole left the legislature earlier this year after receiving an appointment to his new position by Gov. Kay Ivey. Chris England, who chairs the Alabama Democratic Party, is the only true incumbent on the Tuscaloosa delegation who will seek re-election in 2022. He has run unopposed since first being elected to the legislature in 2006. Party primaries for the November 2022 General Election are set for May 24, 2022. Primary winners will then appear on the Nov. 8, 2022 General Election ballot. Here's a quick look at what each candidate has raised and spent thus far in the lead up to the 2022 election.
