USF Health at the University of South Florida is conducting a research study for symptoms of psychological trauma using Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (martial arts) and Hatha Yoga.
You may be eligible for this study if you are…
• Male, age 18 -44 years old
• U.S. service member with prior deployment (Active duty or veteran)
• Having symptoms of psychological trauma related to military service
• Not in psychological crisis, substance dependent, or being treated for substance abuse
• Able to perform significant physical activity
• Able to read and speak English
The purpose of this research is to investigate whether Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (a form of martial arts) and Hatha Yoga are helpful in improving symptoms of psychological trauma that are due to distressing memories. This study is being conducted by Dr. Alison Willing.
This is a ten week study. Participants will be paid $25 Target gift cards each time they fill out self-report questionnaires up to a possible $100 total compensation. Possible benefits may be less frequent recall of disturbing or traumatic memories, better mood and emotional status in daily life, less anxiety and improved sleep.
