The Human Resource Generalist (I/II/III) is responsible for providing comprehensive HR support. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: day to day departmental functions, Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), onboarding, employee relations, training and development, benefits administration, compensation, and recruitment/employment. All Generalist Positions - Core Activities (Typical Duties/Responsibilities) Operates with the highest level of confidentiality while handling information professionally and consistently with legal and ethical policies. Participates in developing department goals, objectives and systems. Assists in evaluation of reports, and results of department in relation to established goals. Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to continually improve efficiency of the department and services performed. Explains human resource policies, procedures, and standards to new and existing employees. Drafts documents for review and revisions, including creation or maintenance of various Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, PowerPoint and any established templates. Maintains all human resources files ensuring accuracy in the HR filing system by accurately filing documents into appropriate files. Maintains compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations. Prepares required federal and state notices and monitor time requirements regarding these entitlements. Conducts various HR audits annually or as needed. Research, compile and analyze data for special personnel projects, events, trainings, or reports. Administers and maintains various human resource plans and procedures; assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and HR Procedures Manuel. Performs other related duties as assigned. All Generalist Positions – Core Skills and Abilities HR expertise and ethical practices. Demonstrated ethical and confidential behavior Advanced skills in Windows and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to work with sensitive situations and with confidential documents. Basic research competency. Knowledge of human resources functions, procedures and basic knowledge of company policies and procedures. Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, analytical, relationship management and administrative skills. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Excellent attention to detail with the ability to adapt quickly, multi-task and prioritize a variety of tasks concurrently. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision. All Generalist Positions – Core Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field preferred; experience can be substituted on a year for year basis. PHR or SHRM-CP preferred or willing to obtain within one year of hire or certification eligibility. Current Driver’s License Generalist I II Addition to the Previously Listed Activities (Typical Duties/Responsibilities): Facilitates onboarding process and ensures new hire paperwork is completed and processed accurately. Prepares and updates employment records related to hiring, transferring, promoting, and terminating employees by processing personnel action forms and ensuring the proper approvals Maintains and enters employee data/information which is stored within several HRIS database systems Facilitates new hire orientation, open enrollment and other HR presentations as needed. Performs a variety of general HR administrative functions, including reference checks, background checks, recruitment and screening for open positions, coordinating mailings, and processing employee benefit forms while adhering to time-sensitive, confidentiality of documents. Performs benefits administration, including resolution of employee questions, change reporting, approving invoices for payment and communicating benefits information to employees. Facilitates new hire orientation and other HR presentations as needed. Addition to All Previously Listed Education and Experience: Two to four years of experience in Human Resources. Generalist III Addition to the Previously Listed Activities (Typical Duties/Responsibilities): Ability to perform all duties contained under HR Generalist I, II. Performs a variety of general HR administrative functions, including reference checks, background checks, recruitment and screening for open positions, coordinating mailings, and processing employee benefit forms while adhering to time-sensitive, confidentiality of documents. Ensures compliance with Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) by following Temporary Continuation of Coverage (TCC) guidelines by tracking and preparing TCC final notices. Performs advanced employee relation functions including support and counseling regarding personnel and job related conflicts, problem solving and dispute resolution, managing employee performance issues, review and assessment of termination requests; conduct exit interviews Conducts open enrollment in coordination with other HR Generalists and payroll. Provides guidance, coaching, and support to other HR Generalists with benefits administration, including resolution of employee questions, change reporting, approving invoices for payment and communicating benefits information to employees. Assists with investigations as needed under the direction of the Human Resources Director. Addition To All Previously Listed Education and Experience: Four to six years of experience in Human Resources.
