Description

Explore the French side of DC you wish you knew! Since our first tour on December 4 is full, we have just opened up a second date. Join us on Saturday, December 1 1 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM to explore the French side of DC! It is no surprise that Washington, D.C. is one of the United States’ most European-looking cities. It was designed by a French architect and engineer, Pierre Charles L’Enfant. There are many more connections between DC and France, from the Revolutionary War hero General Marquis de Lafayette to the Du Pont dynasty and Beaux Arts architects. This tour will be held in English and will last about two hours. Prepare to walk for about 2 miles. We will start in front of the Hotel Washington located at 515 15th St NW and finish on 2142 Wyoming Ave NW next to the AFDC building. About Katie Kirkpatrick and Off The Mall Tours Off the Mall Tours is a unique walking tour company that brings a fresh perspective to the history of the nation's capital. Its mission is to introduce locals and tourists alike to the DC that awaits "off the mall" and in the neighborhoods of this fascinating, energetic city. DC is multi-layered and has a multi-cultural heritage, and our company strives to share the contributions of the international community on the city. To really understand Washington, you need to "get Off the Mall!" Katie Kirkpatrick is proud to call herself a DC resident since 2002. She moved to the capital after college for graduate school, and then worked in government for many years. However, history was always her first love. So she started her own company, drawing upon her interests in unique stories, a flair for costuming, and her love of DC. She also has a long-term relationship with France, having studied French since high school and living in France and Francophone countries at several periods in her life. She loves all things French! Follow her at @offthemalltours. The Alliance Française of Washington, D.C. (AFDC) was founded in 1905. Interrupted by World War 2, it reopened in 1949 originally as a social club and became an officially incorporated organization in 1965. AFDC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-governmental organization, since 1955. It is not subsidized by any government. It is an educational and cultural institution headed by a Franco-American Board of Directors. The Alliance Française of Washington, D.C. serves as the leading center for French language, French culture and francophone resources in the Nation’s Capital. Alliance Française of Washington, D.C. enriches the lives of the D.C. community by offering the chance to connect with people of different backgrounds and cultures in order to better understand and appreciate the greater global community.
