What is included in a ticket: Drinks and snacks will be provided. A meet and greet and autograph session with Brian and Richel. You will get to hunt the building with them. VIP tickets will allow you to stay an extra hour to hunt the building. History: The Temple was dedicated in 1927. It is 7 stories and 160,000 sq ft. They began the building in 1922. They made it to the top of the 5th floor, when the building collapsed. No one was killed in the accident but several were reported to have rode the rubble down to the ground. The debris was cleared, and a construction company from New York was brought in to start over. Every column is a steel Ibeam, and the building has three feet of concrete between each floor. John Philips Sousa played at the dedication in 1927, on the stage in the theatre. The building has been a hub for activity in Salina for over 90 years. It was a USO show hub in the 1940's during WWII, and had as many as 5000 soldiers entertained on all floors. You could dance with a girl for $0.10! The theatre spans 3 floors and houses a collection of rare original backdrops. The backdrops predate the building and were painted in 1905 in Chicago by a company that made scenery for masonic temples around the country. This collection went to Mcalester, Oklahoma originally in 1905. When Salina was building their Temple in 1927, Mcalester was remodeling and offered to sell the collection. Salina Temple bought the entire collection, 104 backdrops and original rope rigging for $30,000. It was delivered in a specialty made rail car and has hung here ever since. The scenes are all hand painted, and many have intricate cutouts. The scenes include Heaven, Hell with a blue devil, White Palace, Woodland Scene, Colorful Roman Apartment, Treasure Room with Gold Menorah and a beautiful Cathedral Scene. Salina Innovation Foundation was formed with the mission to save and preserve the Temple for our community to enjoy for future generations. Personal Experiences: Even though there is no record of anyone passing in the building, many people have had their own experiences. A blue light flashing in doorways that have no power or windows has been seen. We have a gentleman that whistles on the first floor. We experience a ton of light anomalies on the 6th floor which still houses Masonic Items. Voices can be heard on many floors and loud banging can be heard throughout the building. What is the Salina Innovation Foundation? We formed this foundation with the mission to save and endow the historic Salina Masonic Temple building, keeping ownership local and for use as a community resource to foster growth in business, education, arts, culinary arts and performing arts.
