Nicolas Economou) ABOUT THE ARTISTS Dr. Nai-yu Chen, a Taiwanese pianist, has been an active soloist since the age of 5. She regularly gives community recitals and lectures and performs in prominent master classes and music festivals in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Participating in various piano competitions over the years, Dr. Chen was, most recently, named as a finalist in the Grieg Festival Young Artist Competition in 2015. She also received first place with the Best Performance honor in the Professor Mao-Shuen Chen Scholarship Competition in 2007 and took first place in the Taiwan KAWAI piano competition in 2000. Alongside her performing career, Dr. Chen is a faculty member at the New Mozart School of Music. She also devotes her time as Board of Directors of East Bay Music Foundation and Program Chair of MTAC Palo Alto Branch, developing community music programs. During her doctoral study, Dr. Chen was a scholarship recipient and thus, granted her an opportunity of 10-15 collaborative recitals annually and an extensive repertoire, ranging from traditional works to new music. Her collaboration with various artists has appeared in several venues in the Bay Area, including Santa Clara University, Mission College, Mountain View Performing Arts Center, McAfee Performing Arts Center, and Cubberley Theater. A native of Fremont, California, Dr. Alison Lee is a pianist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. She is the first prize winner of several competitions including Thursday Musical’s Scholarship Competition and the Dorothy Van Waynen Piano Competition, and second prize winner at the Midwest International Piano Competition. Her concerto appearances include performances with Coeur d’Alene Symphony and Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony. Besides performing as a soloist, Alison loves playing chamber music and frequently performs with cellist Isaac Pastor-Chermak. She also dreams of making chamber music more accessible to young musicians and is the current director of East Bay Music Foundation’s Chamber Music Festival. Alison holds a doctoral degree in piano performance from the University of Minnesota, and her previous teachers include Lydia Artymiw, Jon Kimura Parker and Angela Cheng. www.alisonthepianist.com
