Woman, 65, Pistol-Whipped In Attempted Robbery: Hamden Police

HAMDEN, CT — A 65-year-old woman was struck several times in the head and face with a gun during an attempted armed robbery early Tuesday morning in Hamden, according to police. Police responded to the parking lot of the Dogwood Apartments, 200 Evergreen Ave., just after midnight on the report of an attempted robbery, according to Detective Sean J. Dolan. Dolan said a suspect approached the victim in the parking lot and demanded her purse at gunpoint. The suspect struck the victim several times in the head and face with the gun when she refused to give up the purse, according to Dolan. The suspect left after the victim screamed and was unable to get any of her personal belongings, Dolan said. The suspect left in a newer model Jeep Grand Cherokee that was dark blue or black with CT plates, according to Dolan. A second suspect was waiting in the getaway vehicle. The victim suffered bruises and cuts to her head and face, Dolan said. She was treated at the scene by Hamden Fire Rescue and taken to Yale New Haven Hospital for further medical evaluation, according to Dolan. Police are continuing to investigate the attempted robbery.
