EAST HAVEN, CT — Gov. Ned Lamont, in New Haven Monday as part of an awareness effort to encourage Connecticut residents to get COVID-19 booster shots, took a detour into East Haven. Lamont and Mayor Joseph A. Carfora met, toured the West End revitalization project, and Carfora pressed the governor, he said, to make sure East Haven gets its fair share of federal infrastructure money. Then they went to grab a slice, followed by a visit to the famous Sugar Bakery. Carfora said he was "respectfully assertive" in letting Lamont know East Haven needs to be allotted funds from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. "The governor was in New Haven and wanted to meet with me about the West End Revitalization project," he said. The two toured the site. Carfora said he "took the opportunity to let him know East Haven's need for infrastructure funding." "And he's certainly aware of Sugar. We take pride in the women-owned business." And so to the bakery they went. A source later told Patch that Carfora will be "active in Hartford this budget season."
