Here are the top stories today in Salt Lake City: Elf the Musical returns to Salt Lake City in what for many will be their first live theater experience since the pandemic. Essentially the show is back by popular demand since Elf, The Musical remains one of Pioneer Theater Company's most popular Christmas shows they've ever produced. This time the director, himself a long-time Sesame Street star, hasn't seen the movie, so it promises to be a unique interpretation of the beloved holiday story, different enough from the film to go check out. (KJZZ)Despite a US diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Olympics, Salt Lake organizers still plan to attend with hopes for a future bid. Looking to 2030 or 2034, the Salt Lake City - Utah Committee for the Games still plans to send a cohort to China which they claim will be more for research purposes as opposed to diplomatic ones. Utah Senator Mitt Romney applauded the boycott. (Salt Lake Tribune) In the wake of an era of protests and pandemics, Salt Lake School District has seen the number of resource police officers at its schools cut in half. Now, educators are trying to bring the officers back to their schools but being one of the last districts in Utah to stay virtual, the available officers have been assigned elsewhere.
