Here are the top stories in Sacramento today: Law enforcement will increase their presence at Laguna Creek High School "out of an abundance of caution" in response to a possible threat online, the Elk Grove Unified School District said on Monday. "The threat has been deemed not credible," spokesperson Xanthi Soriano said Monday. "Out of an abundance of caution, there will still be a police presence on the Laguna Creek High School campus today and tomorrow." (KCRA3)Highway 50 was closed Monday morning in both directions near Camino in El Dorado County, according to California Highway Patrol. A spokesperson from CHP's Placerville section told ABC10 that a high-speed chase occurred near Camino and Snows Road. The vehicle came to a stop and El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies approached just before 10:30 a.m. They smashed a window and removed the person from their vehicle. The identity of the person is not known at this time. (ABC10)The four people killed when a single-engine plane crashed in heavy fog minutes after takeoff from a small airport in central California over the weekend have been identified as a family from the Sacramento area. David Chelini, 78, and his two daughters 46-year-old Karen Baker and 48-year-old Donna Chelini were killed in the crash, the Tulare County Sheriff's Office said. Steven Chelini, 58, David's nephew, was also among the dead. (KCRA3)Union Institute & University (UI&U) awarded Galt Police Officer Harminder Grewal a posthumous bachelor's degree in criminal justice management on Dec. 3, 2021, in a ceremony attended by family and colleagues at the Galt Police Department. Grewal was just short of completing his degree when he was killed in the line of duty. In August, Grewal succumbed to injuries he sustained in a head-on vehicle crash on his way to help with the Caldor Fire. (thepress.net) A nurse in Sacramento was arrested on Thursday, Dec. 2 for endangering the life or health of a child with disabilities. Child Abuse Detectives from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office arrested 48-year-old Edgar Gomez Burgion for six counts of endangering the life or health of a child and one count of an attempted offence because of a disability. (8:00 PM) From my notebook: The Front Street Animal Shelter is so short-staffed they took to social media asking for volunteers. Sacramento Animal Care Services PIO Ryan Hinderman says overall staffing is down 25% — and the animal care staff, those who actually tend to the animals, is down 50%. But when Front Street Animal Shelter put out a call for help on Facebook, the community answered with hundreds applying to volunteer. While so many stepped up, they are still taking applications.
