JOLIET, IL — Trevor McClelland, a 24-year-old Plainfield resident, faces several criminal charges including reckless driving after Joliet police say he refused to pull over for a traffic stop early Monday morning, leading squad cars on a high-speed chase. Police said the chase was eventually terminated for safety reasons. After McClelland returned to his house in the 16000 block of Winding Creek Road, Joliet police arrested him on charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding a peace officer, reckless driving, aggravated speeding and numerous traffic offenses. McClelland also had an arrest warrant from Naperville police for possession of controlled substances, police reports show. Around 12:05 a.m., Joliet police tried to pull over McClelland after he drove through a red light in the 400 block of North Center Street at Western Avenue, police said. "During the pursuit, the vehicle left the roadway and drove onto the sidewalk while northbound in the 800 block of Center Street before returning back to the roadway," police spokesman Dwayne English said. "The pursuit was then terminated out of concern for safety." Police determined McClelland was driving and officers found him and his vehicle in the 16000 block of South Winding Creek Road, where he resides in Plainfield. Police said the young man from Plainfield was arrested without any problems, and he was booked into the Will County Jail around 4:30 a.m. Monday.
